Elisabeth Kelly King Reilly
Kelly Reilly was an inquisitive and energetic student who excelled in writing. For a “people person,” school offered Reilly the opportunity to make friends she would keep her entire life. Her wedding party included friends from kindergarten at Taylor Elementary School as well as middle school, high school and college friends.
As an athlete, Reilly focused on soccer until discovering field hockey at Maury High School. During her senior year she was a team captain and won an award for sportsmanship and leadership. She juggled her sport with a heavy academic load while volunteering as president of a Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters junior circle. At the University of Virginia Reilly wrote a column for the Cavalier Daily student newspaper and won a Virginia Press Association award for a series of articles she wrote. In her spare time she volunteered in a Big Brother Big Sister program. Following graduation in 2003 Reilly became a sales manager at Auto Trader in Virginia Beach. She also wrote for Hampton Roads publications. After becoming engaged in Paris, Kelly King married Craig Reilly in July 2006 in a Charlottesville church across from the U.Va. Rotunda surrounded by family and friends.
After Kelly’s tragic death in November 2006, her family decided to direct memorial donations to the community foundation to create a scholarship. The Elisabeth Kelly King Reilly Scholarship benefits students who, like Kelly, graduate from Maury High School and attend the University of Virginia.
