BCF - Honoring Agency's Co-Founder

A. Palmer Farley, Jr. was an ad executive who reveled in putting creative ideas into action. Farley was a native of Beckley, West Virginia who grew up working in the family newspaper business and graduated from West Virginia University with degrees in journalism and advertising. He moved to Hampton Roads in 1974 to be an account manager at a Norfolk ad agency. In 1980 he and two partners formed Barker Campbell & Farley in Virginia Beach. He remained involved with the agency until retiring in 2005. Based in Virginia Beach, BCF is a brand communications firm specializing in travel and destination marketing.

Palmer was particularly proud of the agency’s internship program which helped dozens of young people launch careers in communications. Palmer’s special interest in nourishing next-generation professionals led his former co-workers to select a scholarship as a meaningful way to honor him after his death in 2008. The firm donated $100,100 to create the Palmer Farley Memorial Scholarship at the Hampton Roads Community Foundation. The scholarship is for graduate students in brand management at Virginia Commonwealth University.
